FEATURES

Standard

In-line with a reversing rolling mill.

APPLICATION

Benefits

This saw is located at their titanium melt facility. The saw is cutting the billets and ingots to lengths required for further downline processing. This was a new facility for the customer. Prior to this new facility the customer was sourcing their titanium bar. This new facility allowed them to product their own titanium bar to help drive their business as a vertically integrated supplier. The abrasive saw allowed the customer to cut their material in a fast, efficient manner completely in line with their production line. The customer later purchased a smaller saw for further up line finishing on their smaller reversing rolling mill.

Pivot Saw Installation

COMPANY

Houston, TX

The company produces close-die, high integrity forgings for the aerospace and energy markets.

EQUIPMENT

CAH 1220 Saw

150HP, 48” abrasive wheel, material temperatures up to 2100°F.

FEATURES
Portable Machine

Designed to be portable so it could be easily moved from one production line to the next.

APPLICATION

Benefits

The customer was producing forged bars and needed a fast, efficient way to cut the material to various lengths. The saw went into an existing facility that had multiple finishing lines. The customer needed flexibility to move the saw between lines based on their customer material requirements. Abrasive saws provide a fast, efficient means of cutting high alloy materials. Compared to band saws; abrasive saws can be over 400% faster, which means a quicker ROI. This was the first of two custom saws that we supplied to this facility. The customer chose CMI as we were willing to design and manufacture a custom-tailored solution to meet their requirements.

Wet Saw Installation

COMPANY

Houston, PA

The company produces titanium wire, shapes, medical devices and finished bar for the Aerospace, Medical, Consumer, Infrastructure.

EQUIPMENT

CAW 700/75HP Saw

FEATURES

Coolant While Cutting

A high pressure coolant nozzle that tracked the saw blade to ensure coolant was properly getting into the cut. Others use a flooding type system which doesn’t stay in the cut.

APPLICATION

Benefits

The customer is cutting finished bar stock to be supplied directly to its customer. The customer currently didn’t have a way to cut finished bar product in this reversing rolling line. This allowed them to offer this product to their end customers which they currently weren’t able to offer. The saw allowed for efficient and accurate cutting of heat sensitive material. Centro-Metalcut also supplied a small in line measuring gauge to measure lengths of 8’ to 14’.

Lab Saw Installation

APPLICATION

Benefits

The saw is in the metallurgical lab and is used to cut test pieces of material from the mill into various sized pieces for their metallurgical test requirements. This was a new mill and they wanted a clean, efficient solution to cut material in their test facilities. The wet saw allows the customer to cut these sample/test pieces without the concern of adding any additional heat to the material which is critical to achieve the exact metallurgical qualities they are testing for. This is the second wet saw this customer has purchased for their metallurgical labs. The saws t-slot table offers a wide range of cutting flexibility.

Conditioning Grinders

Overhead Grinder Installation

COMPANY

New Castle, PA

The company produces Forged High Alloys products for the aerospace, automotive, defense, industrial, marine, mining & construction, oil * gas, power generation, transportation & infrastructure and tooling industries.

EQUIPMENT

OH450/75HP

FEATURES

Wireless

Wireless remote operation (new feature), 75HP grinding motor (larger than others).

APPLICATION

Benefits

The customer is doing finish grinding on ingots before shipping to their customer. The customer previously used a swing grinder which is VERY labor intensive and put the operator within inches of the grinding wheel. This became a growing safety concern. The wanted an operator friendly machine that was not labor intensive and much safer operation. Must safer design compared to a swing grinder, superior wireless control capability. The customer has been very complimentary of the machine’s functionality, safety and its reliability.

FEATURES

Grinds at 45° or 90° orientation

The material range was very vast, including grinding both rounds and slabs. The machine had to be designed to be completely set on mill level (no pits) and be no taller than 20’ to fit under their overhead crane. Automatic round material loading and unloading tables.

APPLICATION

Benefits

The range of material sizes, using two different in-line grinding cars (rounds car and slab car), on car automatic slab turning. The customer is grinding the material at various stages of their process. The material is being ground prior to being forged and after being forged so it could be finished further down line. The customer’s increased demand required them to need a new grinder. Their existing grinder was limited on capabilities and did not offer the ability to grind both rounds or slabs and did not have automatic onboard slab turning. This machines offered significant benefits in product through put and time with decreased material handling times. This machine was very impressive in size and complete capabilities!

Track Grinder Installation

APPLICATION

Benefits

The customer conditions the slabs to remove scale and defects before they are rolled into sheet material. The customer currently ground their slabs at a different facility and needed to be more efficient in their operation. They added grinding capabilities to this facility to accomplish that. The customer had limited crane time available in the mill they needed the conditioning grinder located, so material handling time had to be at a complete minimum. By offering in-line slab turning with the track grinder, this absolutely minimized the customer’s material handling requirements to only needing to load an unfinished slab and unload a completely finished slab. This not only saved a significant amount of time in turning the slabs but provided the customer with the crane availability they required elsewhere in the mill.
